Assemblywoman Yustein!

Longtime Ridger Jacqueline Yustein has been selected to fill the seat of retiring 34th District Assemblyman Ralph Caputo.

Jackie is a former Glen Ridge Councilwoman, a member (and Immediate Past President) of the Glen Ridge Kiwanis Club, and currently serves as Glen Ridge's Democratic Municipal Chair. The official election for the interim position will be on April 18th. but Jackie has no opponent in the race and will serve out the remainder of Caputo’s term, which expires on January 9, 2024 - Jackie will not be a candidate to fill the position in November.

Jackie will become the first state legislator from Glen Ridge since 1985 when four-term Democratic Assemblyman Buddy Fortunato lost his re-election bid.

Earthquake Relief for Turkey & Syria

Our local Turkish Community is hosting a Benefit Dinner - sponsored by the Glen Ridge Congregational Church and the Glen Ridge Kiwanis on Saturday, April 22, from 7:30-11:00 pm with authentic Turkish food, music, raffles, auctions and more! 

They hope to raise much needed funds to help in the catastrophic aftermath of the massive earthquakes in Turkey and Syria to aid the survivors. All proceeds will go directly to earthquake relief efforts through two U.S. verified organizations, one in Turkey and one in Syria.  

The Glen Ridge Congregational Church is a 501c3 organization and as such your contributions are tax deductible. 

Please note that this is an adults only event.

A Hero's Farewell

Sergeant Charles "Rob' Roberts III has been laid to rest in Rosedale Cemetery. Officer Roberts, who lost his life to COVID-19 on May 11, was given the posthumous promotion to sergeant as part of the memorial service earlier today in front of Glen Ridge Borough Hall. Police from all over New Jersey attended the solemn ceremony, which was followed by a procession through the streets of the borough he protected as a police officer for the last 20 years. The procession was longer than a mile in length, and thousands of Ridgers lined the streets to honor "Rob" as his hearse drove past.

Memorial Service Today for GRPD Officer Charles "Rob" Roberts ****Note: Procession Route Revised****

At 11:45 this morning, the body of GRPD Officer Charles "Rob" Roberts will be escorted from a funeral home in Bloomfield. The private escort will travel west on Bay Avenue to Ridgewood Avenue and stop at the Glen Ridge Municipal Complex where, at Noon, a service will take place for the family in front of the Municipal Building facing Bloomfield Avenue.

The Municipal Complex and surrounding lawn will be closed to the public. The service will be live streamed on the Borough Facebook Page.

Upon conclusion of the service, approximately 12:50pm, a funeral escort procession will travel throughout Glen Ridge on its way to bring Officer Roberts to his final rest. The procession, consisting of family and members of the public safety community, will follow this revised route:

At 12:50pm, residents are asked to stand outside their home with their hand over their heart as the procession passes. Rob's widow, Alice Baker Roberts, has asked for the Glen Ridge community to show their support by wearing Mets colored attire.

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, The Borough of Glen Ridge will be holding a Memorial Service for Officer Charles "Rob" Roberts. At 11:45am, a private escort will be leaving the funeral home in Bloomfield, traveling west on Bay Avenue to Ridgewood Avenue and stopping at the Glen Ridge Municipal Complex. At Noon, a service will take place for the family in front of the Municipal Building facing Bloomfield Avenue.

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I, Chief Sheila Byron-Lagattuta and the entire Glen Ridge Police Department announce the passing of our beloved Officer Charles “Rob” Roberts. Officer Roberts, badge #69 is the first line of duty death within the history of the Glen Ridge Police Department, established in 1895.

COVID-19 has brought another terrible tragedy to our little borough. Veteran GRPD Officer Charles "Rob" Roberts, who has been battling the disease for weeks, has passed away, it was announced earlier today.

Many in Glen Ridge received the awful news in an email from GR Schools Superintendent Dirk Philips:
